Calling the National Guard to California-Arizona-Mexico Border Pt1
July 28, 2014
The ubiquitous “Made in China” which is best translated “Not Made by Americans in America” could have said “Made in Mexico & America”
A July 22nd press release” detailed California’s official stance on the Border situation in response to queries by Californians and the subsequent legal use by Texas’s Governors of National Guard to protect their southern border.
Capt. Will Martin of the California Military Department said ,
“The border shared by Texas and Mexico presents a significantly different set of considerations than those presented by the border shared by California and Mexico,”
Therefore, unlike the Governor of Texas, Governor Brown would not deploy military to protect the California-Arizona-Mexico borders. Instead, Governor Browns’ strategy was to meet with Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs on July 23rd. Then, this week he is on a trade mission to Mexico.
So, it is quite understandable why the Governor wants to keep a friendly climate for discussions this week with the Mexican government. We wonder if his safety while in Mexico was also of concern.
Absolutely, this is the best way to help our friendly southern neighbors. These discussions should have happened years ago. Congressman Berman should have been traveling with his entourage of Congressmen from the ……….. Committee to Mexico rather than Asia, as he did in February under the guise of fact-finding for the contentious Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.
The ubiquitous “Made in China” which is best translated “Not Made by Americans in America” could have said “Made in Mexico & America” if Congressman Brad Sherman, a ranking member of the trade subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, had forward thinking for constituents rather than his investor donors.
Meanwhile, what is the status of the California National Guard*? June 15, 2014, there were multiple Black Hawk liftoffs from Camp Roberts as part of the largest California Guard training since before 9/11. The “aerial training is designed to improve and validate the ability of the CAARNG’s 79th Infantry Combat Team (IBCT) to fight and win the nation’s wars overseas. It also demonstrates its capability to respond quickly to state emergencies and rapidly deploy soldiers to an incident site to provide care and stability to California’s residents.”
The problem is not the California – Mexico – Arizona border.
The problem is Mexico’s southern border is not protected. So by the time the group of adults with their children have reached America (Texas, Arizona, California), the Coyote’s have utilized Mexico’s resources (legally or illegally). Mexico does not want this group of people burdening their nation. It is more politically advantageous to usher them across our border as part of a strategy to see immigration reform, of which Mexico would benefit greatly in future trade agreements. So the Coyote’s cargo (HUMANS: women and children) are being used as pawns in a long overdue political strategy to change America’s immigration laws.
Ironically, January 21, 2008 the immigration issue could have been the first order of business, with a Democrat Congress, a Democrat Senate and a Nation focused on a historical election. Any member of Congress could have initiated some resolve in this perfect scenario.
Why did Brad Sherman sit quiet? Why does he continue to sit quiet? Statistics reveal that in 2012, in the Berman-Sherman face off, Sherman received votes from Hispanics, while Jewish voters in the district chose the more transparent Berman.
Clearly, Sherman is concerned about losing the Hispanic vote in November 2014. What he has not addressed is how much the border issue is affecting his Hispanic constituents and voters. Hispanics who are here working, paying a mortgage, sending their children to college, and planning for retirement.
* Note: “The California National Guard is a federally funded California military force, part of the National Guard of the United States. It comprises both Army and Air National Guard components and is the largest national guard force in the United States with a total authorized strength of 22,900 soldiers and airmen. As of January 2012, California National Guardsmen have been deployed overseas 38 times since 2001, of which twenty-nine have been killed in Iraq and two have died in Afghanistan. ……. The Governor of California may call individuals or units of the California National Guard into state service during emergencies or to assist in special situations which lend themselves to use of the National Guard. The state mission assigned to the National Guard is: “To provide trained and disciplined forces for domestic emergencies or as otherwise provided by state law.” (Wikipedia)
